It's been a while since I posted recipes for you to try out and indulge in (if you get it right). Well, since I promised you healthy Ramadaan recipes to help you stay focused and in shape, I decided to share some with you today as part of our 'Healthy Ramadaan' series.

So we know how important having Suhoor/Sehri is and I hope we are not skipping it. Suhoor/sehri is our 'start of the day meal', if you don't have it, you'll probably pass out or break your fast at 12 pm (which is sooo avoidable if you just have suhoor/sehri). This week's recipes are all about smoothies which you can make in no time and enjoy at suhoor/sehri (or iftaar because it's just too awesome to not have more). By the way, if you didn't know, A smoothie is a blended and sometimes sweetened beverage made from fresh fruit, vegetables and, in special cases, chocolate or peanut butter. They can be enjoyed any time of the day, month or year.

First on the menu is a power date smoothie.

Ingredients:

1 cup milk

1/2 cup plain yoghurt

5 dates

1 banana

2 Tblsp peanut butter

2 Tblsp oats

2 Tblsp honey

Pinch of cinnamon

What to do:

Soak oats and dates in milk and refrigerate overnight. In the morning (suhoor time), add the milk/oats/date mixture with all other ingredients to a blender. Let it blend lekker and serve when smooth. This recipe makes 2 servings.

You can replace the peanut butter with about 4-5 strawberries and replace the oats with your favourite flavour of Future Life.

Rapsberry smoothie

Ingredients:

Your favourite nut butter (aka crunchy peanut butter)

Low fat milk

Frozen raspberries

What to do:

Blend all the ingredients together and serve :) You can garnish with some raspberries. Yep, that's about it.

Blueberry Green tea smoothie

I do not like green tea at all, but the blueberries I just love. They are my favourite berry and not just because of their distinct violet/purple colour, but also because they help burn stubborn fat. Combined with green tea, we have an antioxidant nutritional powerhouse.

Ingredients

3 Tblsp water

1 green teabag

2 tsp honey

1 1/2 cup frozen blueberrie

1/2 banana

3/4 cup vanilla milk (or just normal milk)

What to do:

Make the tea the way you make normal tea, but make sure that the teabag releases all that green goodness. Stir in the honey until it dissolves.

Combine berries, banana and milk in a blender.

Add tea to the blender and blend together. When it's smooth, it's ready to serve.

I don't know about you, but these smoothies are making me hungry. I'm off to make myself a smoothie or two for iftaar, yes, cold n all. That's all I have for you for today. More recipes to follow soon so make sure you keep your eyes glued to your LCD's. Oh yeah, don't forget to enter the Ramadaan competition on my Facebook page. Are you prepared? You should be prepared by now, if not, there is still time to do so in'sha Allah.

In Healthy Ramadaan: Part 1, I gave you a brief on how your metabolism works during fasting as well as the types of foods you should opt for when preparing your Ramadaan meal plan. So you're meal plan is now sorted, but you still want to know if you can exercise during Ramadaan. The good news is, yes you can exercise during Ramadaan and Health24's Fitness Expert, Habib Noorbhai says that if you follow certain guidelines, it is perfectly safe. Read his tips here.

So Noorbhai says you should continue exercising because if you miss one month of exercise, its equivalent to losing four months of hard work. Yes you read correctly, four months gone. He also mentioned that you should maintain your current workout programme, but not intensify your routine. If you suffer from a chronic illness, injury or complication, then exercise with caution.

Now that you have your exercise plan in order, here are some tips to follow to ensure you have a healthy Ramadaan.

Plan your schedule and meals ahead of time in order to make sure that you get the nutrients, hydration and rest that you need. It's important that your body gets enough rest because fasting can take its toll on your body.

Eating suhoor/sehri is important and also Sunnah. There are many rewards and benefits of having suhoor so therefore make sure that you don't miss it and have an unhealthy 'dry fast'.

Drink plenty of water if you can during suhoor and focus on foods that are rich in carbohydrates and proteins because that's where you'll get your energy from.

Don't stuff your face during iftaar, instead break your fast the Sunnah way with dates and either milk, water or fruit juice. After maghrib salaah, continue with a light starter like soup or haleem and a cracker cos' nothing goes down well like hot soup on a cold winter evening. While still enjoying the feeling of eating after a long day of fasting, don't overeat. Have a light dinner and drink as much liquids as you can. Now don't mean caffeinated beverages and sodas.

Avoid fried and spicy foods as they may cause heartburn and indigestion.

Use this opportunity to eliminate bad habits like smoking.

Have an assortment of dried or fresh fruit and nuts instead of the caramel treat desserts. Reserve that for Eid, I'm sure aunty Fatima will understand.

And after having all those yummy foods, don't forget to brush and floss your teeth for healthy teeth and gums.

Maintain a healthy BMI (Body Mass Index): Ramadaan is the perfect time to absorb the spirit of fasting and become more aware of your consumption and eating habits. A common way to identify a healthy body weight is through the BMI. The formula for calculating your BMI is weight in kilograms divided by height in metres squared: BMI= Weight/Height x Height. For example: 56kg/1.7x1.7=20.76

Underweight = 18.5

Normal weight = 18.6-24.9

Overweight = 25-29.9

Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater

Remember to plan your schedule properly so that you can make the most of this blessed month by reading and reflecting on the Glorious Qur'aan and the purpose of Ramadaan because you never know if it may be your last. May Allah make it easy for you and me and allow us to reach full potential during this auspicious month.

I will post recipes soon in'sha Allah, so stick around, but until my next blog post:

In case you didn't know, she's the daughter of super mum, my good friend, and this month's person to look out for: Fazeela Isaac.

Fazeela is a 28 year old BBA final year student; an Aalimah graduate; FAIS accredited broker and designer, who was born and bred in Chatsworth Durban. She's this month's PTLOF because she is making her mark with every step she takes. If this interview were to take place over tea and samoosas, we wouldn't have got anything done.

What is the name of your collection and when did you start it?
The name of my collection is Maseeha Collection and I started it one year ago.

You're an accredited broker and BBA student, why did you decide to start a line of clothing?
I am a Jill of all trades (lol), so after trying out a few other businesses, I realised that my strength is in supplying products rather than services. And that coupled with the unpleasantness of unsuccessfully searching for abayas in stores that were unique to my individuality, brought me to the point of designing and sewing my own abayas and dresses. It is highly important for me to show our Muslimahs how elegantly beautiful, trendy, stylish and modern we can look whilst still pleasing our Creator.

When did you start designing?
I learnt how to design and sew around 2005 at the Institute where I completed my Aalimah course. I officially got back to designing in 2014.

How do you come up with the ideas?
Trial and error! I enjoy brainstorming with my cousin Haafizah. I usually play around with ideas and piece fabrics together and then pass the idea to her for a second opinion.

What type of fabrics do you use and are they easily accessible?
Bonbon and nida are my ultimate faves. I love the quality and texture of them as well as the versatility. I also add some chiffon pieces at times depending on the design. Cotton African prints are now being introduced to the collection and I'm loving it. The fabrics are easily accessible and available at almost all fabric shops.

Who is your target market?
Females of all ages and sizes. There are abayas for little girls from our 'Lil Princess' Collection, right up to teens and of course adult Muslimahs.

You're a mother as well as a teacher, how do you cope in all those roles?
By simply putting on my Superwoman abaya and hustling like a pro #HustlersParadise. It also helps to have a stupendously independent, brilliant and supportive daughter to add to the ease of trying to do it all. I might not have much time to breath between my students, my kid and my business, but the taste of success and independence makes it all worth it.

How do you define success and what motivates you to succeed?
Success for me is being able to smile at my bank account (just kidding) :-)
Having the ability to be financially, emotionally and personally independent is what defines success to me. My motivation for success is without a doubt my daughter Maseeha whom the brand is named after.

Where do you see yourself and Maseeha Collection in five years time?
Expanding my business by exploring other avenues like online stores and getting my abayas into boutiques with absolute brand awareness and brand recognition. As for myself, well, still pushing the hustle while growing my family in'sha Allah.

Here's a sneak peak of what you can expect from the Maseeha Collection:

With Ramadaan just around the corner (a few weeks to go), all I'm hearing is "yes, I'm gonna lose weight," "time to get rid of this fat," "the only time I can lose weight is in Ramadaan," "I can't wait for Ramadaan so that I can lose this weight." Let's get one thing straight, the beautiful and holy month of Ramadaan is not a weight loss challenge or diet to make one lose weight. The month of Ramadaan is not like any other Islamic month. It's purpose it to rid man of those habits which he/she has accumulated throughout the year. It prepares us for the remaining months by teaching us discipline and self control. Acts such as eating, drinking and fulfilling ones desires have been made haraam by Allah. If we can control our desires during Ramadaan, then we can control it any other time. So if you've ever fasted, you know that losing weight doesn't happen so easily in fact, some us gain weight.

Let's look at what happens to your body during Ramadaan. While you are fasting, you become more dehydrated at rest than usual, but less than if you had exercised aerobically for over an hour. Your main metabolic fuel source for bodily function during fasting is mainly fat, which is a good thing. So what you want to do in Ramadaan is to maximise metabolism even though your metabolism slows down due to less frequent meals; preserve and enhance as much lean muscle mass as possible which will increase your metabolic rate and allow you to burn more calories at rest. Don't put all your hopes on Ramadaan to hep you get slim and trim because that is setting yourself up for disappointment instead focus on staying healthy and not gaining unwanted fat due to all those pastries. If you want to make this Ramadaan a healthy one, set goals and stick to them.

Here are a few things to choose from and a few things to avoid to keep you energetic and nurtured throughout Ramadaan.
One designer in particular that caught my attention was Zainab Khoele, the face behind HD or commonly known as Haya Designs.

Her style is a fusion of beautiful African prints from all over Africa with denim which is something that she loves. The designs are simple, yet elegant and can be worn for any occassion. Imagine wearing sneakers with a dress, well, with HD you can.

So it has been well over a month since the-highly-anticipated-much-awaited, first installment of the Fifty Shades Trilogy, 50 Shades of Grey. There were many mixed reviews to the release of this movie with some calling it 'mommy-porn', others dubbing it 'bad' and 'un-religious' or whatever they were calling it.

Okay hold up, let me just say this, 50 Shades of Grey is not the first and probably won't be the last of its kind. Erotica has been around for a very long time. I'm talking before the 18th Century. So why such a buzz on 50 Shades of Grey? Growing up, I didn't read a lota erotica because that wasn't my kind of thing. I was more into scary stories and fantasies, (well 50S is a fantasy on its own) and adventure.

October 2013, my cousin introduced me to the compelling; dull; unstimulating; unnerving world of Anastasia Steele and the unholy; abominable Christian Grey. Why did you do it girl... whyyyyy??? You have awoken my 'inner Goddess' hahaha.

Reading the book then watching the movie was a whole new ball game. It seems like not much thought was put into capturing the entire story as it is in the book. If you were watching the movie and have never read the book, you wouldn't understand what was happening. Take Wanda for instance (that's Ana's blue beetle by-the-way), you didn't even know she named it unless you read the book. While watching the movie, I waited to see how the conflict between Ana and her inner Goddess and Subconscious would turn out, but it wasn't there... where did that go? Or was the budget too low to include it?

On to the characters, oooh my gahd, Eloise Mumford as Kate? Noooo. Luke Grimes as Elliot Grey? Noooo. Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey? I'm still getting used to that, it hasn't sunk in yet. Dakota Johnson as our leading lady Anastasia Steele, I have to admit, at first I didn't quite like her, but to me, she's the only one who actually got into her role and gave us that timid, dull, boring, under-dressed-for-an-interview-with-a-billionaire kinda girl. And as for the other characters, they were fine by me.

Everything else in the movie was spot on, like Grey Enterprises Holding Inc. the cars; the apartments; Charlie Tango; the secretary and other 'blondes', in fact the entire ambiance.
For Fifty Shades Darker, extra effort needs to be put in to make it better than the first or else it will be a huge flop. I've already got friends saying they aren't going to watch it because the first was a disappointment.

Ratings:

Story line- 7/10 (it was not just about the hanky-panky)

Character cast- 5/10 (they should've listened to the audience)

Ambiance- 8/10

Overall- 6/10

At this point, I can't really say I'm looking forward to the sequel. And I suggest that you read the books before watching the movies so that you like you know what's happening.

That's all from me until my next blog... mwahugs

If you feel that you're no longer as motivated to get where you want to be, perhaps revisit your past. What made you quit the first time? Was your diet too strict to follow? Were the exercises just too much to cope with or too difficult to handle? Were you just too busy to fit exercising into your daily routine?
Follow a simpler diet, something that works for you with a 'cheat day' now and then (don't over-do the cheating though).
If the exercises were just too difficult, cut them down and do what you can. Don't overwork your body and push it to limits that it can't handle, that's why there are workouts for beginners.
Don't make flimsy excuses not to workout like: "I just don't have time in my busy schedule" or "I'll do it later." Your schedule can fit a workout in, trust me... it can. If you have to get up extra early, do so.

Before you quit, try everything you can to stay on track. Get a minimum of exercise in.
Park your car far from the entrance so that you can walk and don't take the lift... the stairs will do wonders for your legs.
Find a workout buddy or get a personal trainer if you can afford one.
If you're like me and can't stick to one exercise routine all the time, then change it. Do what you like to do and enjoy doing it. I like to do exercises that will challenge me and I always do a new challenge every month.

I am not a fitness guru for you to look up to because I also lose motivation now and then, so I look up to others who have been in the same boat. So look for people who motivate you to get better. People who want to see you achieve your goals and help you get there. As Bradley Martyn always say: "Let's get better together,"

Here's this months workout:
Again, thanks to social media, I've come to know and become friends with many lovely fashionistas and showing you what they're capable of when it comes to fashion... is just an amazing feeling.

A couple of weeks ago I stumbled across this beaut and just fell in love with her style.

I could say 'modesty' is her middle name, but wait until you see her chic African style. Allow me to introduce Aatiyah Dineo Moyeni, a fourth year B.Ed student from the University of Witwatersrand. Aatiyah fell in love with the hijab at the age of 16 and has been wearing it ever since, masha Allah. This has inspired her to write poetry as a means of communicating what Islam means to her. She loves accessories and is obsessed with long socks. :)

Here's what she put together.

With this look, Aatiyah represents both her Islamic and African identities without compromising one. Now as you can see for yourself, these bright, bold colours are what caught my eye.

High waist maxi skirts are a must-have item for all modest Muslimahs and if you don't think so, check out my OOTD ft. posts. Aatiyah got hers from downtown Jozi. She pairs the skirt with a royal blue top and a yellow hijab from her wardrobe. Accessories always completes a look and she accessorizes with a chunky bracelet and necklace which she found in her mom's car (cos mom's just know where to get the coolest stuff from).

Skirt- downtown Jozi (Jhb CBD)

Scarf and top is from her closet

Bangle from her closet

Statement necklace- mom's rear view mirror :)

Having your own style is what makes you 'YouNique', but you can always get some style tips from our stylish Modest Muslimahs. She has definitely inspired me to get in touch with my 'inner African Queen' and to not be afraid of colour. Good-bye blacks and navys, helloooo oranges and yellows.

That's all folks. Peace, Love and Unity, Mwahugs ;)

It's been a while since I did a take on my OOTD... yeah I've been focusing more on my lovely and stylish friends, cos who needs to show what they're wearing when they've got friends for that right?! right! But for those of you who want to know what I wear and where I get them from, then this one is for you :D

Now I don't know about ya'll, but I'm such a sports fanatic, love watching soccer (or rather the players *wink*), basketball, athletics, swimming and wrestling. I also like sports merchandise and if I have the funds to buy myself some merch, I do. I also have this little Tomboy in me and I love my sneakers as much as I love my heels.

Someone once told me I've got 'hijabi swag' and I didn't believe it cos I didn't know what they were talking about. If I were going to watch a Bulls game, this is exactly what I would wear. Having 'swag' does not mean that you an attitude or you're this 'tough girl' or whatever. So this is me rocking that 'hijabi swag', you might wanna try it.

This is the Jordans look...

Found your fave? I like both looks, but the Air Max really does it for me. The Jordans makes me look bulky and short as opposed to the Maxs. Here's some more pics...
I cheated on my workouts!
I cheated! That's what I did... I cheated!

So what if I cheated? We all do right?! well, maybe not all of us, but definitely most of us. Anyway, I fell off the bandwagon, but I'm getting back up and YOU'RE gonna join me :) cos we're all in this together.

So because I didn't complete the Burpee challenge, I'm going to do it again and this time, it will be done properly, come hell or high tides.

Click here to view the burpee challenge. Also make sure that you print it out and stick it behind your door or on your wall or wherever you will be able to see it and make use of it.
In Bradley Martyn's wise words "Getting better together!"

Oh oops... what's that?! I just thought I'd share a pic (or two) of Bradley Martyn

We come across a lot of people in our lives daily. People who do amazing things, make amazing things and people who need to be exposed for who they are and what they do (in a good way of course ;-) ). One such person is Imaan Sokhela.

She is a beautiful 27 year old from sunny Kwazulu Natal. Imaan has an Honours Degree in Psychology and works for a company called Khulisa Social Solution and she hopes to get an MBA in Psychology soon in'sha Allah. I got an opportunity to interview her and this is how it went.

What is the name of your collection and when did you start?
The name of my brand is called Tapestry Accessories. I started making the accessories more than 14 years ago, but only started marketing the creations in March of 2014.

The name, Tapestry Accessories, where did you get it from?
I just understood that it's a special type of cloth... and I thought, well, why not use it?!

Why did you start making these accessories, I mean you could have done something else?Growing up as a child, I fell in love with fashion and the concept of designing things and making them from scratch. However, when it was time to choose a course to study, my mom felt that fashion or designing would never give me a steady income. While I was studying, I would make things and sell and whatever small thing I made, it would sell fast. When I make these items, I feel happy and relaxed. I don't know if I'm making sense, but designing for me is not a career, but I believe its my talent and something I'm very passionate about.

What type of resources (fabrics/materials) do you use and are they easily accessible?
For the jewelry, I use beads and wires a lot and some material. They are not easily accessible because I usually travel to cities to get material. For the bags, I use leather and it's also not easily accessible because there are very few people selling it and it's very expensive.

Seeing that you're resources are quite costly, are your pieces affordable? Who is your target market?
Yes, they are affordable. I'm targeting mostly middle class and anyone who thinks they can relate in anyway with my work.

Where do you see yourself and Tapestry Accessories in a year or two?
I see myself having accessed markets in African countries and also employing at least two people and supplying to shops. Most importantly, I see Tapestry Accessories running smoothly with a healthy cash flow in'sha Allah.

Now I know you can't wait to see some of her pieces, so... behold...
Social media has a way of bringing people of different
backgrounds and from different walks of life together. One such social media
platform is good ‘ol Facebook. I have to say, I’ve met many people on Facebook
who either added value to my life or who just brought irritating pokes,
constant Facebook calls, inbox proposals and the likes.

With all that I’ve experienced on Facebook, it’s the people
that I’ve met, became friends with and shared life experiences with, that
matter. One such person is the
beautiful-kind-hearted-free-spirited-outspoken-stylish-muslimah, Fatima Teigh
Mathe. Today’s edition of the OOTD features her and her killer modest street
style. What better way to kick start the year other than with her.

You know it's summer when you leave the windows open at night and have some rather 'expected' visitors (mosquitoes). You know it's summer, when you see short shorts on women... and men. You know it's summer, when it's officially no work or school =) and all play :D

With the promise of summer comes great expectations; sunshine, freedom,
relaxation, and endless days to make lotsa memories. You
and your bff's spend weeks (even months) planning out all your amazing summer
plans, but let's face it, all those parties, outings and adventures, don't really go as planned. All is not lost, however because sometimes it's the unplanned events that make the best memories. With summer, comes great expectations, but also a painful reality. Behold:

EXPECTATION: Planning an awesome summer vacation

REALITY: Just chilling at home, complaining about how bored you are, how hot it is and what you gonna next summer.

How often does the above happen? I'll say almost ALL THE TIME. We plan and prepare, but when the time comes to execute the plan, things just never fall into place.

EXPECTATION: Chilling at the beach, basking in the sun, enjoying the cool drinks and light summer breeze.

REALITY: Binge watching those series you missed all year round in your hot room and a coupler snacks here and there. It's okay, but just don't overdo it, cos, I mean really?! Everyday and night? No!

EXPECTATION: Sleeping in summer has never been a breeze, especially if you don't have an aircon or fan. You expect to sleep like sleeping beauty, but...

REALITY: ... you end up sleeping like this...

EXPECTATION: You're finally gonna get to go to the beach, yaaaay totes exciting. You expect to find the beach like this... of course it will be right? I'm sure everyone else is going elsewhere?!

REALITY: ...no, everyone is NOT going elsewhere. Sadly, they're going where you're going and the beach is one place you have to share. Go early to find a nice chilling spot. Or perhaps you might find someone willing to share their space with you and you might just get a new bff, romance or bromance :)

Whatever you're planning on doing this summer or wherever you plan on going, do it safely.

Tell someone that you are going out and what time you expect to return

Try to vary your route and schedule as much as possible

Avoid heading out at dusk or at night

Avoid non-savoury areas

It is advisable not to listen to music while out as you may not hear an approaching car, truck, suspect or even a dog

Wear bright reflective clothing at all times – a simple reflector on your shoes will not suffice

Carry some form of identification

Carry your mobile phone with you

Carry small change in case of an emergency

Have a lovely summer vacation, stay safe and don't anything I wouldn't do :) ;)
Friendships are really important in a person’s life. There are different levels of friendship which are never really obvious on the surface; it is only when you reach a crisis point in your life that you find out just who your true friends are. Friends are not just those creatures that God put on the earth to do crazy things with; to paint the town (and faces) red; to ward off those stalkers or to talk you into doing something you'd never imagine you'd do; but they are sometimes family as well. Of course we have our best friends who are often closer to us than family; they share all of our secrets and know us inside out. We all have ‘fair weather friends’ who help us to celebrate and only arrive on our doorsteps when they need something from us, and then there are invisible friends who aren’t really there at all! In life we face a number of challenges and unfortunately, one of those challenges is a fake friend. Now, if you're one of those people who tend to see the good in others and are often faced with the fake friend dilemma, here are tips on: "HOW TO SPOT A FAKE FRIEND"

They are selfish
Typically, a fake friend will only call you when they want or need something. Rarely, will they call for other reasons. You often get the impression that they are only calling you because no one else was available.

They thrive on gossip and drama
If someone enjoys gossiping about others, then they may be gossiping behind your back as well. Gossiping and spreading rumors has serious consequences and is at the base of relational aggression. You find yourself agreeing with them so as to keep the peace and not get into an argument. Avoid friendships with people who thrive on gossip and drama.

They require you to pretend
The hallmark of a healthy friendship is that you can be yourself. If you feel like you have to wear a mask or can’t be real, then that is the sign of a fake friend. You don't have to talk or dress differently in order to fit in. Fake friends also resort to peer pressure.

Fake friends lie
Many times, fake friends do not feel good about who they are so they lie about their accomplishments, their clothes, their possessions – anything to make themselves look better. And if they lie about themselves, they will lie about you too. If you catch a friend in multiple lies, it’s probably not a healthy friendship.

Fake friends are critical
If their friends are constantly criticizing them, it is time to take a closer look at the friendship. Real friends are supportive and encouraging, but fake friends often criticize. Girls in particular are guilty of being critical about weight, dress-code, looks, etc.

They are not happy when you succeed
If your friends have something insulting to say every time time you succeed, then they are not real friends. Real friends celebrate one another’s accomplishments.

You have never felt comfortable enough with them to tell them a secret.
Usually, good friends will keep one another’s secrets. Real friends don’t tell the world who you are crushing on. If your friends is always spilling the beans, then it’s time to start considering that they are not friend-worthy.

Fake friends rarely have your back
Real friends will stick up for one another, especially when faced with a dilemma. Meanwhile, a fake friend will either be a quiet bystander even take part in the the whatever is happening to avoid becoming the next victim. If this is a regular occurrence, start looking for another group of REAL friends.

Take the 'Fake Friend Quiz' here and find out if you have a fake friend that you need to get rid of.

Remember, fake friends are toxic and once you have them, prepare for disaster (just kidding), or not!
And if you're the fake friend reading this, honey, you might wanna change your ways especially if you don't wanna end up alone & friendless with no one to tell about your crushes, with no one to go shopping with or with no one to lift you up when you're down (yeah, all that and more, you get the picture).

That's all for now. I'll be back in a jiffy! Mwahugs!

Her name is Maseeha Moola and believe or not, she's only 6 years old, but already making waves. She is the daughter of designer slash, cook slash, teacher slash, super mom, Fazeela Isaacs. Little Maseeha is known as the '1st Lady of Zee' to her mom. She loves talking, (so I've been told), has a keen interest in cellphones, tablets, laptops and other cool gadgets. She enjoys reading and creating her own stories.

Her look is from the 'Maseeha' range and it was inspired by her awesomeness and positive diva-like attitude. It was also an early birthday gift from her mom who slaved the night away to have it ready (Super Mom I tell you). I have never had the opportunity to meet this little miss Diva, but I will soon in'sha Allah and I know she will be everything I expect her to be and more :) (the pics tell 1000 words- so they say). Young Moola baby ;)
Oh sister, wherefore art thou?!

Makeup can turn an ugly duckling into a beautiful swan or a man into a woman. It can take you from drab to fab ,but if not done properly, it can make you look ghastly. I think everyone should develop their own style because what works for you, may not work for me and vice versa, but it also helps getting tips from the pros. I'm a huge fan of highlight and contour and I've watched a lot of videos tryna get tips and tricks to do it. I decided to get my gadgets and doohickeys together and practice the highlight contour on this little canvas of mine. Here are the results.

Oops, wrong pics... nope, those are supposed to be there. This is what I look like on a daily basis, face moisturizer, kajol and lipgloss and I'm good to go. If you see me walking down the road or driving around, this is the me you're gonna see, so let it sink in.

as you can see, a little, foundation, powder, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara and lip colour goes a looong way.

Is this the same person in the first three pics? Yes it is. This is the highlight and contour I've been going on about. The tips to get a great highlight and contour are simple: get foundation in your shade, in a few shades lighter than your own and in a few shades darker than your own. It should look something like this (p.s. I'm not the person in the next pic ;))
Flying is quick, effective and sometimes fun, but there is nothing fun about flying for the first time and getting sick along the way or going on that cruise you planned for months and having to throw up for most part of the trip, or what about those road trips?! This is all caused by Motion Sickness

What is motion sickness?

Motion sickness is the feeling you get when the motion you sense with your inner ear is different from the motion you visualize. It is a common condition that occurs in some people who travel by car, train, airplane or boat. Many people suffer from this condition if they ride on a roller coaster or other similar amusement park rides. Motion sickness progresses from a feeling of uneasiness to sweating and/or dizziness. This is usually quickly followed by nausea and/or vomiting.

Motion sickness is caused by the mixed signals sent to the brain by the eyes and the inner ear (semicircular canals). If you cannot see the motion your body's feeling, or conversely, if you cannot feel the motion your eyes see, then it is likely that the brain will get mixed signals and the person will develop some aspect or symptom of motion sickness.

I remember the first time I got motion sickness from the dreadful amusement park ride... talk about a sick date. After that ride, I wanted to do nothing more than to throw up and go home (yes, in that order). I hope to never get motion sickness again and if I do, I'll definitely be taking these with me and following these tips.

Crackers: Take these snacks along and nibble on them every couple of hours to help prevent nausea and vomiting. An empty stomach makes it more likely that you will get sick.

Ginger: Ginger has long been known as a herbal remedy for nausea, but modern science has proved this spice has merit, especially for motion sickness. One study discovered that ginger was actually better than over-the-counter motion sickness meds. Make a ginger tea to take along with you when you're traveling by cutting 10 to 12 slices of fresh ginger and placing them in a pot with 1 quart water. Boil for ten minutes. Strain out the ginger, and add 1/2 cup honey for sweetening if you like. You can also get any other form of ginger. Just ginger up.

Low-fat foods: If you eat a low-fat meal before you head out on your trip, you may avoid getting sick. Eating something before you leave makes your stomach more capable of handling the ups and downs of the road. Experts say not eating destabilizes the stomach's electrical signals, making you susceptible to nausea and vomiting.

Peppermint flavoured sweets or lozenges: If you start feeling sick, get out the mints. Not only will you end up with fresh minty breath when you arrive at your destination, you'll also calm your queasiness. And if you're traveling with little ones, try placing 1 drop peppermint oil on their tongues before the trip. It may quash the queasies.

Tea: Sip on some warm tea if you start feeling sick. Warm beverages tend to be easier on a nauseated tummy than a tall glass of cold water. Go for the decaf brew; caffeinated drinks aren't a good idea for unstable stomachs.

Apple juice: Drink a glass of apple juice with your pre-travel low-fat meal. Giving your body a bit of sugar with fluids before you start your journey should help you down the road. And if you start feeling ill, sipping (not gulping) some juice may help you feel better. Almost any non-citrus juice will do. Citrus juice irritates an already unstable stomach.

Manchester City vs Manchester UnitedThe Soweto Derby has been postponed until further notice, however, there is another derby that ya'll can look forward to this Sunday. I'm talking about the Manchester Derby ;). Manchester United's Wayne Rooney takes on Manchester City Sergio Aguero at the Etihad. The first meeting between the two teams occurred on 12 November 1881. As of 31 October 2014, there have been 167 competitive meetings between the teams. United have won 69 and City 48, the remaining 50 games finishing as draws.

The biggest victories have been to City who have won 6–1 on two occasions in the official league (both times in the away fixture at Old Trafford) on 23 January 1926 and 23 October 2011. So don't forget to tune in tomorrow to find out who will come out tops when these two teams meet on Sunday 2/11/2014.

THE BURPEEErr, what's a burpee?

The burpee is a full body exercise used in strength training and as an aerobic exercise. The basic movement is performed in four steps and known as a "four-count burpee":

1. Begin in a standing position.
2. Drop into a squat position with your hands on the ground. (count 1)
3. Kick your feet back, while keeping your arms extended. (count 2)
4. Immediately return your feet to the squat position. (count 3)
5. Jump up from the squat position (count 4)
I haaaate burpees. Whenever I have to do burpees in an exercise routine, I always end up doing like 2 or 3 or 5 (cheating in-between). Burpees are actually good for you and one of the best exercise routines, why? Because:

1. They work your entire body.
Unlike isolation exercises like biceps curls and triceps kickbacks, burpees are a full body exercise. That means you’ll work pretty much every muscle in your body while doing them, so you’ll actually burn more calories in less time when you do burpees.
Do them quickly with intensity and you’ll get an even bigger calorie burning effect that will last all day long.

2. You can do them anywhere.

Since burpees require nothing more than your own body to do them, you can really do them anywhere. Such exercises like burpees are awesome because they give you no excuse not to work out.

3. They’ll get you stronger.

Burpees are the ultimate example of functional fitness, meaning they'll not only help you meet your weight loss and fitness goals, they'll also help you perform better during everyday activities like carrying groceries, lifting a suitcase over your head, carrying a bucket of water (when the water woes start) etc.

With every rep, you’ll work your arms, chest, quads, glutes, hamstrings, and core muscles. After a few sets of burpees, your legs will feel a bit like lead, your arms will shake and you’ll feel your muscles getting stronger. (My body always feel like jelly).

4. They boost your endurance (no treadmill necessary).

Want to get fit in a hurry? Whether your goal is to train for a race, try a new sport, get in shape for spring hiking season or just to look good, burpees will get you there, fast.

In fact, burpees are one of the best exercises EVER to boost your conditioning and endurance for sports and other activities. Even just 10 burpees in a row will make your heart pound and your breath get quicker. Do them consistently and watch as your conditioning level skyrockets!

5. They’re a great addition to any workout

Burpees are a dynamic, fast-paced, never-boring exercise, and a perfect addition to any workout, whether you’re doing a HIIT-style workout or need a quick tabata workout any time of the day.

Okay, okay, the burpee does wonders, I still don't like them. Well, I guess I will try the burpee challenge.

DECLARATION

I, Mariam AM, vow to take and complete the burpee challenge to commence on the 1st of November 2014.
I challenge ya'll to join me in my quest for 'liking the burpee'
It will do wonders for all of us, so why not. :)
